Wrong Turn = Big Tummies
Maginhawa St. in Quezon City is a foodie's dreamland in the Philippines. The number of restaurants is just overwhelming. The different variety of food is also drowning. My two food buddies and I drove for about 10 minutes just to get a good view of every single restaurant. After another 5 minutes of deciding of what and where to eat, we agreed that we should try a place where many stalls are located so that we can try a bit of everything. Eureka, we found 150 Maginhawa Food Park (Waze can help you with the directions) .
For the sake of Steak...
Ahlee's Porterhouse Steak XL - P 280.00
Ahlee's Steak House and Barbecue Restaurant is what caught my eyes first since I am an avid fan of steaks. We ordered their Porterhouse Steak XL with marble potatoes and red wine sauce. I requested it to be done medium well. I must say, the steak was cooked to perfection, just the way we wanted it. Having it paired with their signature red wine sauce and baby potatoes, it will keep you munching. I also have to commend the people in the stall, they were amazing. They were super friendly and even shared a glimpse of their history with us. I just wished that they opt to stay with Plan A and built their restaurant in Pasig. But anyhow, their steak is something that I would drive and endure the heavy traffic for. Yes, I will drive for the sake of steak.
Canadian snacking...
Poutine - P 350.00 (comes with Donair and Maple Iced Tea)
Canadian Snack Shack offers the country's staples such as poutines (French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy), donair (beef wrapped in pita bread with tomatoes, onions, and sweet tangy sauce) and pizza. We got to try their donair and poutine. The donair was something new to my tongue because of the sweet garlic sauce. The flavors are just right and compliment each ingredient. The poutine, on the other hand, is really something I can't wait to have again. YUMMY, just yummy. We also had their signature Maple Iced Tea. It was something different from the usual iced tea; not too sweet with the kick of excitement. Wait for me, dear poutine.
Hot chick...
1 lb Wings (Half Soy Garlic, Half Classic Mild) - P 270.00
Wings Gone Wild is known for their classic Buffalo wings. We tried Soy Garlic and Mild Classic, both extra wet. They have the option to drown your wings with the specific sauce of your choice and genius, they decided to call it "extra wet". Soy Garlic was amazing. It reminds of my favorite Korean fried chicken. On the other hand, the Mild Classic kept us begging for water. It was insanely spicy, maybe, because of the extra sauce. The wings are seasoned well and the sauces give a lot of impact. Also tried their Jack Ass Tea which is basically iced tea in a Jack Daniel's bottle. It was a one hot night with those wild wings. Whooo!
Maginhawa will surely satisfy your cravings. Make sure to visit these three stalls. Food was AMAZING. We only spent a little less than 1300 pesos. And, before I even forget, be early. It gets crowded at around 6-7PM and looking for a parking space is a bit of a hassle. Have fun and eat your hearts out.
